Al Gets Love From The Vikings

Congratulations to Al Gore for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. I fully enjoyed your film and seeing all the effort you’ve put into your chosen area of expertise. Good stuff.

Now, next year, could we finally see someone who’s actually created peace and harmony, get the friggin prize? ‘Who?’, you might ask. How about our fine ex-president Martti Ahtisaari?

I remember, back in my student days, meeting a guy at a party. As we were talking, I told him I was from Finland . He said: “Thank you, your President brought peace to my country”. I’ve never felt as good for being Finnish. I believe he was from Namibia.

I rest my case knowing I could continue.

I get your point and agree with the disappointment that we are facing again since President Ahtisaari is truly the one of the most hardworking people on peace and security as we understand the concept in its traditional sense. But then we get to the softer definition of peace-building which includes various fields of expertise, including fight against human rights, enhancing intercultural communications or fighting against climate change. That is why we can accept this decision of the vikings being legitimate.. And why is that so? Climate change is one the factors that leads to conflicts. Picture the scenario of desertification of Sahara which drives nomading and agricultural tribes to more fruitful regions. That is when we have nations meeting another, fighting for the same land to cultivate and conflict may rise. If there was no need such a need for oil, would there be a war in Iraq? What if the Pacific islands would sink, any conflicts? If the water would become a rare substance as oil is becoming… green ideology is strongly peace-building ideology.. (sorry for typos and mistakes in grammar…)
